Suppressed by all my childish fears.

The day had started off kind of rough for Destery. Her alarm clock had somehow unplugged itself during the night, so she had woken up late. After making it downstairs for breakfast, she spilled milk down the front of her shirt and had to go change. Fortunately, Landon had already left for school so he wasn’t there to crack a joke at the poor, clumsy girl. Finally, after gulping down two Tylenols to fight off the oncoming headache, Destery made it out the front door. She almost groaned out loud when her eyes landed on her old, yellow Toyota Corolla. It would probably take fifteen minutes to get the stupid vehicle to crank up.
Just as expected, the car took its time starting up. It even backfired as Destery started down the street. The girl smacked herself in the forehead one good time. What was the purpose of having a vehicle if it barely got you from point A to point B?
Work wasn’t much better for her. There was a meeting for the few photographers on the staff but Destery, being an intern, had to do lunch run. She missed the whole meeting. It was a long day and by the time she left work she was ready for a warm meal and hot bath. Her cell phone rang to extinguish her plans. It was Gran calling to remind Destery that she had bingo and she wouldn’t be home until later. Looks like she would have to find something to eat herself. Landon had probably ordered pizza…again. Destery was so sick of pizza that simply hearing the word pizza made her stomach quake.
Thankfully, Destery’s favorite little fast food joint was just a short drive away. “Tender, juicy chicken Mcnuggets…here I come,”
Her way to the fast food place was blocked by cops and ambulances. There had been a wreck. As soon as she drew nearer to the line of cars waiting to get by…as soon as she saw the flashing lights a feeling came over her. It started deep, right in the center of her chest. It ached and made her rub a hand across the spot to try to ease the ache. Her stomach had a sour feeling in it. Dread, it had become so familiar to Destery over time but that didn’t mean it was a welcome feeling.
Quickly, she scooted her small car backward and then forwards and backwards again. She didn’t have much room to work but she wasn’t staying there in line any longer. She had to get away from that place.
When the lights were far behind her, Destery relaxed. She had decided to just head home. Pizza wasn’t that bad. She could probably handle one more night of it.
Destery chewed on her bottom lip as she focused on the road in front of her. Her Gran’s house was actually a little outside of Bossier City, on a little dirt road right off Highway 71/Barksdale Boulevard. It was outside of the city so it was relaxing. The house was surrounded by open fields and it was far enough away from the city that you couldn’t hear its horrendous noises.
Destery was lost in thought and bit down a little too hard on her bottom lip. She hissed and pulled the visor down to have a quick look in the mirror. It only took a second but that was enough. As Destery flipped the visor back up she let out a scream and yanked the steering wheel hard to the right. There had been a huge deer standing in the middle of the dirt road and she had been driving way too fast. The car slid sideways on the loose sand and rocks, lurched completely off the road. The ditch was pretty deep and the grass was high. The car didn’t flip but the slopes of both sides of the ditch were steep enough that the car slammed into the other side hard. A grunt tore from Destery’s throat as her forehead smacked the steering wheel.
She couldn’t have been unconscious for more than a few seconds. She wasn’t even sure that she had passed out. All she was positive about was that her head stung like a mo’fo. She touched the sore spot tenderly with her index and middle fingers. The sting made her hiss through her teeth. “Ow.” Her fingers were warm with blood when Destery drew them away from her head to look at them. She had known she was bleeding but she hadn’t known how much. She could feel it dripping down the side of her face. Her shoulder and chest felt bruised from where the seatbelt had held her in place.
Destery opened the door and attempted to get out of the car. The angle made it difficult. She had to use the side of the car to keep herself from falling over. As soon as she let go of the car door, gravity pulled it closed. Destery felt extremely lightheaded but she tried to get up the ditch to the road to signal for help. Wait! She had completely forgotten about her phone. It was in her camera bag in the car. As she started to turn around, the sudden movement threw her balance off and her feet slid backwards as her body tried to remain straight up. She ended up on her stomach in the grass and dirt. She slid down the ditch to the car. With a sigh of defeat she decided to just lay there for a second.
Destery didn’t begin to panic until she realized how tired she was feeling. She just wanted to go to sleep for a minute. She probably had a concussion and she needed to get help. It was so hard to move though. Her limbs felt like they weighed 300 pounds each. She tried to coach herself mentally, ‘Come on, Destery. The bag is right in the car. Just get into the car and call for help.’[/blockquote]

Don't let me die here. There must be something more.
